An Interesting NYT Article
For a long time, people knew or suspected that a person who would abuse an animal would abuse a child or a spouse. Now it appears some states are taking action to identify and cross reference animal abusers, including hoarders. Here is an article from the New York Times describing what a handful of states have done and what others are considering.

I was just listening to my local radio morning show. There's a group of men (I don't know what their title is) in the Philadelphia area who are basically like undercover type good guys who go after people who engage in dog fighting and betting on dog fights. They get tips from police and vice versa. One of the men said that people who engage in dog fighting are 90% likely to also abuse children as pedophiles. They hone in on a defenseless animal first and then later move on to children and the elderly.
As far as violence goes--dogs, children, old people--if you are the kind who likes to hurt others, it doesn't much matter who the hurtee is, as long as you get your pleasure causing pain. All you need is a vulnerable target. In terms of the pedophilia connection, that is new to me. It would be great to see a study or research making a link between dogfighters and sexual predation on children. There's no horrible thing I wouldn't believe dog fighters capable of, including molesting children and beating their grandmothers, but I'd like to have the academic support in my hands before I go out and make those claims. What's the radio station you heard this report on? That's a place to start.
Thanks for posting. The more publicity available the better.
